Boom, bap, time for rap!

Yep. It’s that time of year again. The New York rapper-songwriter, Hoodie Allen, is making another appearance on March 12th. Last year, you may have seen him perform, along with his opening act G-Eazy. If you didn’t make the show, you’re in luck. Now, they’re both coming back, only weeks apart from each other, along with Chris Webby on his Bars On Me Tour, stopping through on Feb. 12. All three of rappers are unsigned but on the grind!

Bars On Me is the album that may just launch Chris Webby to stardom and he’ll be here to perform it on the 12th. This 24-year-old from Norwalk, Connecticut, has worked with artists like Joell Ortiz, Bun B and Mac Miller. Some people even call him, “the next Eminem.” With songs like “Browser,” and “Wait a Minute,” featuring Kid Ink & Bun B, the talented upcoming rapper raises the bar and proves that he is more than just another kid from the northern Atlantic coast.

Although G-Eazy was Hoodie Allen’s supporting act last year, he is now on a tour of his own. On February 25th the rapper, producer, recording engineer and graphic designer G-Eazy will be here for his Must Be Nice tour. The artist has played in small Midwest clubs all the way up to shows with Drake, Big Sean and even Lil Wayne. The original 50’s sampling rapper has yet produced another sensational ten-track album. With hits like “Plastic Dreams,” “Marilyn,” and “Lady Killers,” you won’t want to miss it!

Last but certainly not least, is the writer, and as we all know him, Hoodie Allen, who will be here to grace us with his lyrics once again. Hoodie Allen always seems to make every word count with his storytelling, punch lines and comedy expressed through lyrics. He incessantly makes a connection with the audience because of his unique genre-blending style. Check out his latest mix tape, Leap Year, with my personal favorite, “The Chase Is On,” before the show!

Doors open at 7pm, shows start at 8pm for all ages. Ticket prices vary so don’t forget to check online and purchase in advance. Come check out these artists, performing soon!

We’re not talking about Calexico, California…

Calexico. Known by most as a small border town in California. Others recognize Calexico as an alternative folk music band with a unique blend of styles. This group incorporates the traditional Latin sounds of mariachi and Tejano, also known as Tex-Mex music. As a result of the group’s distinct way of intermixing genres, some say they have virtually created a genre of their own. Whatever genre you may consider them to be, Calexico will be putting on a show this Saturday that fans won’t want to miss!

The show will open with the supporting artist, Afie Jurvanen. Even though this singer-songwriter is originally from the Canadian province, Ontario, he has been making music under the name Bahamas since 2009. Barchords, Bahamas newest album will help the audience escape from treacherous cold and into paradise with his soulful song lyrics about sunsets, relationships and heartache.

Following this intensely flavorful music from Bahamas will be Calexico. The group just released their seventh full length album, ALGIERS, in the diverse city of New Orleans. However, the two main band members, Joey Burns and John Convertino, first played together in Los Angeles in the group Giant Sand. Calexico is now a six member band that uses instruments ranging from drums to the Kontrabass.

After six albums, other tour CDs and affiliations with Iron & Wine and Willie Nelson, Calexico continues to successfully produce albums. While recording their most stimulating album, ALGIERS, the band was reborn and impacted by the city. Nevertheless, the record is a classic with songs such as the single, “Para,” and other songs on the album, “Epic,” and “Splitter.”

The show is this Saturday, the 2nd for all ages. Doors open at 8pm and the shows starts at 9pm. Only $18 for advance tickets and $20 on the day of the show. Come dance all night to the Tucson, Arizona based indie rock band, Calexico!

Does This Look Infected?

In 2002, Sum 41 released the rapturous album, “Does This Look Infected?” This Canadian rock band immediately became a hit with fans of harder and edgier music than what was produced on their first record. The album had a more serious outlook, featuring songs like “The Hell Song,” “Over My Head (Better Off Dead),” and “Still Waiting.” Younger fans may recognize this group as the band who released their fifth and newest album, “Screaming Bloody Murder.” A decade later, all fans are joining together to celebrate the 10th anniversary of, “Does This Look Infected?”

The supporting rock bands, IAmDynamite and Hunter Valentine, will get the show started with their roaring beats and crunching power chords. The up and coming band, IAmDynamite, has played at smaller rock clubs in the past so many audience members will be able to see them perform at a larger venue for their first time! Hunter Valentine has been rocking out since the summer of 2004. Both bands are known for their rather aggressive and loud nature which is great for Sum 41 fans!

Following these thunderous opening acts will be the band that we’ve all been waiting for…The band that stuck together after a near death experience while filming a documentary in a war zone in 2005…The band that almost lost member, Deryck Whibley, when he was almost deported for his political views in 2007…Not to mention the band that has sold over 12 million albums. Despite their struggles and success, the group Sum 41 is stuck around and will be performing for you on Jan. 28!

Sum 41 is notorious for hosting long global tours that last for more than a year, usually over 300 performances but this tour is a unique one for them. On their 10th anniversary tour you can expect them to play the entire second album, “Does this look infected?” as well as other hits. They won Group of the Year at the Juno awards after this album peaked No. 32 on the billboard 200 charts in 2002.

The show, presented by 96.5 the Buzz, is this Monday, the 28th. Doors open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm. Only $20 for advance tickets and $22 on the day of the show. Don’t miss your chance to see Sum 41 perform some award winning songs from their second album and other fan favorites!
